How far is Tunquen Magico from Santiago?

We are 1.5 hours from Santiago Airport. Waze or Google Maps work well for navigation (you can type in Tunquen Magico).

 

Are the roads in a good condition?

There is a dirt road to the house for the last 10 min (30 km / hr speed limit). The road is in a good condition but you need to drive slowly because there can be some bumps. You don’t need an SUV; a regular car is ok but please drive carefully.

 

Are you located in a gated community?

Yes, we are in "Fundo la Boca" there is 24-hour security. They will be informed of your arrival. They ask for your name, ID card, and car license plate to enter. 

 

Is there parking?

Yes, there is parking on site. There is one spot per apartment. If you need an extra space, please contact us.

 

When is Check-in?

Check-in is from 3pm- Midnight

 

When is Check-out?

12pm (Noon)

 

Do you offer Late Check-out?

There is no late check-out on Fridays or Saturdays. Otherwise, late check-out is 8pm, based on availability. There is an additional fee.

 

Do you offer Early Check-in?

If we have availability, Early Checking is available at 8am. There is an additional fee.

 

Can I smoke?

Yes, you can smoke outside. Please use the ashtray. Smoking is not allowed indoors.

 

Check-out Procedures:

Make sure the stove, gas, water, lights are off. Please clean up the dishes before checking out (there is an additional fee for dirty dishes).

 

Quiet time:

From 11pm to 9am is quiet time so please don’t play loud music and be respectful of other guests.

 

Can I have guest?

No. We only allow paid guests because of our gated community policies.

 

Breakfast:

Breakfast is included. Please let us know if you have any food allergies

 

Where are you located?

We are located in a beautiful cliff-side, oceanfront gated community overlooking the ocean and sunsets. We have 3 Apartments in a 2-story building; and two independent Cabins (Acantilado and Roca). 

 

What kind of payments do you accept?

We accept credit cards (no debit cards), direct bank transfer, WebPay (please contact us for a link). There is a 4% surcharge for credit card and WebPay payments. There is also a 19% VAT charge (BOTH for Chilean and foreign visitors)

 

Do you offer room discounts?

Please check the rates on our website. For stays of 7 days or more, we offer a generously-sized welcome seasonal food plate (cheese, cookies, ham, hummus, olives, fruit), in addition to the bottle of wine and a bottle of water.

 

Do you offer any add-ons?

You can pre-book flowers, champagne, massages with ocean view, breakfast, custom gourmet lunch and/or dinner. If you are booking on our website, you will be able to order add-ons on the final screen. If you didn’t reserve a room on our website and you want to book add-ons, please let us know.

 

Are you pet-friendly?

Sorry, we are not able to host pets of any size.

 

Are kid-friendly?

Sorry, no. Kids have to be 12 or older. Maximum occupancy for each Apartment and Cabin is 2 people.

 

Is there Wi-fi?

We have high-speed satellite Wi-fi internet in all apartments. You can do video calls, stream movies, etc. (We upgraded to high-speed internet at the end of 2021. Some earlier guests mention not having good internet—that was before we upgraded).

 

Do you recycle?

Yes, we recycle glass, plastic, metal, and cardboard.

 

What products do you provide in the bathrooms?

We provide ecological shampoo, conditioner, body wash, body lotion and soap by Pharmacopia.net. There is toilet paper, towels, shower caps, and a hair dryer.

 

Are the kitchens fully equipped?

Yes. Every apartment has its own kitchen. There is a fridge, tea pot, French press coffee maker,  toaster, kettle, stove, gas barbecue, cooking pots, glasses, wine glasses, utensils, salt, sugar, tea, olive oil, Merken seasoning, turmeric, oregano, sponges, dish soap,  dish towel, napkins, and paper towels. There are no microwaves because we get power from solar panel and a generator. There is a fire extinguisher and a first aid kit. We also provide a night lantern.

 

Bedroom Amenities:

Direct TV Gold (Smart TV) in every apartment. There are USB night lights in every bedroom. There are 4 pillows on the bed (at least two types to choose from: tempurpedic, foam, feather). Balconies have two lounge chairs and a table.

Do you offer barbecue (BBQ)?

Yes. There is a gas barbecue in every apartment.           

 

Does each apartment have its own balcony or terrace?

Yes.

 

Are all the terraces / balconies facing the sunset?

Yes. All times of the year! You can see the sunset from your bed too. Sometimes you can watch the full moon setting in the ocean. It’s a paradise for stargazers because there are no public street lights.

 

How far is the beach?

One beach is right below the house (Los Chaguales). There are steep stairs (10 minutes’ walk down).

There is also a more accessible beach called Playa Grande. It’s a 10-minute walk, with a much easier slope down to the water. Play Grande is in an ecological preserve.

 

Is the beach sandy?

Yes. Both beaches have sand. 

 

Can I swim?

Swimming is dangerous because of rip currents. Sometimes experienced surfers can surf, but please be careful. The water is cold.

 

What kind of wildlife is there?

Many species of birds of all covers, Monito del monte (adorable native mammals that carry their babies in their pouch), wild horses, huge hummingbirds, and many types of sea creatures in the tide pools. It’s a paradise for bird watchers. Whales can be seen in September, and dolphins can be seen out of the windows year-round.

 

What kind of plants are there?

We have many unique, beautiful flowers and plants (Chagual o Puya is the plant that the beach is named for). There are many evergreens. There is wild nettle with beautiful purple flowers. You can find seaweed in the ocean and eat it.  California poppies grow next to the beach in the spring – you can see orange flowers everywhere. You can see wild orchids in the spring. There are many cacti with flowers. 

 

Are there mosquitoes?

Only in the summer. We have an electric bug zapper.

 

For longer stays, do I get cleaning service?

Cleaning service, including new towels, are provided every two days for longer stays.

 

Welcome Gift

We provide a bottle of water and a bottle of wine. For stays of 7 nights of more, we provide a generous food plate.

 

What should I pack?

Pack your camera to photograph the beaches, birds, flowers and sunsets. It’s a good idea to have some warm clothes, even in the summer because nights can be cold and windy. Bring comfortable shoes, glasses, sunscreen, bottled water (one bottle of water is provided upon arrival).

Are there any restaurants nearby?

Yes. “Casa Tunquen Macerado” restaurant is 5 minutes from the entrance to our gated community. Reservations are required. It’s casual dress, open for lunch and dinner. There is a food truck Sabores de Tunquen, also 5 minutes from the entrance.

 

Is there a hospital nearby?

Yes, about 30 minutes’ drive.

 

Do you offer luggage storage?

No, we don’t.

 

Do you have a hot tub?

No, we don’t.

 

Is there a supermarket nearby?

Yes. There are 2 mini-markets outside the gated community. Minimarket Tunquen and Minimarket “Las Hermanas”.
